The new path defined by IFS (International Featured Standard) represents an absolute innovation within the system of food safety certifications aiming at opening new commercial routes. It has been specifically conceived to foster SMEs’ cultural growth by offering them a multi-stage path, each of them corresponding to a compliance certificate, leading to the eventual final certification according to IFS Food standards. The dominant logic is to support those SMEs, ignoring the large-scale distribution procedures in Europe and experiencing troubles with reaching the certification levels that are required to compete in advanced markets, where food safety guarantees represent a fundamental requirement.
